Show firm command of the Code and Standards by applying them to professional integrity cases under Standard VII, Responsibilities as a CFA Institute Member or CFA Candidate

CFA® Level III · Ethical and Professional Standards · Guidance for Standard VII: Responsibilities as a CFA Institute Member or CFA Candidate · L3.ET.8.a

The idea

Standard VII governs how members and candidates behave in CFA Institute's programmes and how they refer to the designation, and managers mostly meet it in marketing. VII(A) forbids cheating, revealing exam content, including which topics or formulas appeared, and misusing membership, such as filing a false Professional Conduct Statement; criticising CFA Institute's policies is allowed. Under VII(B) the designation is an adjective, used after a name or in CFA charterholder, never a noun, so a pitch book describing the team as three CFAs breaches it, while three CFA charterholders is fine. A candidate may not claim a partial designation, the right to use it lapses without paid dues and the annual statement, and no material may imply the charter guarantees superior returns.
