Show a deep grasp of CFA Institute's Code and Standards by interpreting them across a range of professional integrity cases
The idea
Standard I is about the professional's own integrity. Where local law and the Code differ, follow whichever is stricter, and do not take part in a breach you know about: raise it internally first, then step away, for example by removing your name, if it continues. Reporting to a regulator is encouraged but not compulsory unless the law demands it. A gift from a client may be accepted if disclosed to the employer, but a gift from someone seeking influence fails if it could reasonably compromise objectivity. Issuer-paid research must be objective and disclose how it is paid for, and the fee should be flat, not tied to the conclusions. Misrepresentation includes plagiarism and overstated abilities. Misconduct covers professional dishonesty, fraud or deceit and acts that reflect badly on integrity or competence, not every private misfortune. Competence must be kept up, but no particular course is required.
